Google is going to release a free version of Google Meet. Before this, it was available to education and enterprise customers solely via G Suite.

In an attempt to compete with Zoom. Now Google is making the service free for everyone with a Google account who wants to use it.

Till September, Google account holders can create free meetings comprising of up to 100 people for an unlimited amount of time. The duration of each video conference will be 60 minutes after September.

Google wanted to focus on solving the privacy issue. Users can join meeting who invited via the link and if the host approved them. Forcing mobile phone users to use the official Google Meet app.

Google has cleared that the Meet data will be protected. It will not be sold to advertisers or third parties. The Company stated:

“Google Cloud undergoes regular rigorous privacy and security audits for all its services. Our global compliance certifications can help support regulatory requirements such as HIPAA and GDPR, as well as FERPA and COPPA for education. Your Meet data is not used for advertising, and we don’t sell your data to third parties”.

Google Meet is not a new app. It is the business-oriented version of the popular communications platform Google Hangouts.
